STAR academy after-school program

Star Academy after-school program provides extra assistance to students with academic, emotional, and social challenges.  The program aims to increase school attendance and improve academic performance and behavior of children considered to be at high risk for school failure.  The program currently serves students at Annapolis, Marley, Lindale and Chesapeake Bay middle schools.  Activities include academic tutoring, school and community service projects, social competency, health and wellness training, recreational activities, and field trips.  Star Academy participants meet at the school site on Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  Transportation is provided.

strengthening families program

The Strengthening Families program is a 14 session program for Anne Arundel County parents and their children. The program provides training in parenting, children, social and life skills, and family relationship skills. The program provides meals and assists with transportation and childcare. By appointment only.

in home intervention program

The IHI program assesses the needs of mothers in Anne Arundel County that have children ages 5 and under. The case manager spends 18 months developing referral and support systems with families. By appointment only. Contact Elma Jones @410-703-6011 between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm.

mentoring program

The YWCA Mentoring program provides a positive adult role model for youth with emotional problems.  The children, aged 8 -16 years old, in the program are provided an opportunity to increase their social competency, form a bond with an adult mentor, and enhance the quality of their daily lives.  Referrals must be made through the Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency. Each child and mentor partner participate in large and small group activities, one-on-one activities, and field trips.  Sessions are held year round on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.
